Flight Exercise 2: Yaw 360 Degrees
Flight Exercise 2
360 Degree Yaw Maneuver
For this flight exercise, we are going to practice the 360 degree yaw maneuver. To perform this maneuver, you will need to take off and hover, just like in the previous lesson, and then we will rotate the drone in a full circle while keeping the drone in the same location.
Remember, on most controllers (mode 2), the left thumbstick controls yaw. So once you take off and stabilize the drone, try gently pushing the left thumbstick to the left to initiate the yaw maneuver. You may have to also use the right thumbstick as well, in order to keep the drone centered, as wind, air conditioning, or ground effect may cause the drone to drift around a bit during the maneuver.
Don’t get frustrated if you can’t get a full 360 degree circle on the first try. It takes practice!
If you are having trouble, try this maneuver but only go 90 degrees (one quarter turn), then land. Once you can do 90 degrees a few times comfortable, move on and try doing 180 degrees (have circle turn). Do this until you are able to do a full 360 circle all at once.
Now it’s your turn to give it a try!
Now it's your turn to get some hands on experience with the drone.
Start up your drone and do the above exercise until you are able to successfully do a 360 yaw maneuver three times in a row.
If you do not have a drone, try this maneuver in one of the drone flight simulator applications we mentioned in a previous lesson.
Once you master the 360 degree yaw maneuver, you can move on to the next lesson.
