Photo Composition

Photo composition is how the photographer arranges elements in the frame. In real estate photography, visual elements may include lighting, staging items, furniture, window coverings, and more.

As you gain more experience, you will be able to walk into a room and quickly determine where to place your camera for the best angles to showcase the room. Small adjustments like creating balance in items on shelves, opening shades, or moving small furniture can make a big difference in how your photos turn out.

Lighting is a huge factor in composition. Depending on the home and time of day and weather, you may want all of the lights on or just some. It’s important to keep the lighting visually consistent among the photos. Think about when you are clicking through listing photos of a home online, if the lighting is different in each photo it would look unprofessional and odd.

Finding good composition can be as simple as moving your body around the room. Keep in mind what the goal of the photo is, to best market the home. How can you best showcase it?
